Established
to provide local
audiences with meaningful, challenging and engaging theatre, as well
as provide local theatre professionals a forum in which they can
practice their craft, Hawaii Repertory Theatre is the
realized dream of Brian Lee Sackett, the theatre's Founder and
Executive Director.
"We started as an
after-school
program for kids (students of Kawananakoa Middle School) in the
spring of 2002 and slowly expanded over the the following years to
include the entire Roosevelt High School complex," explains Sackett.
"And, as our following and resources continued to grow we decided to
venture into a direction we felt was lacking here in
Hawaii."
Hawaii Repertory Theatre continues to
keep its educational program alive through its Young Artists Series,
which presents plays for young audiences and is produced and
performed by students aged 18 and under. But, Hawaii Rep's main focus
in now
on staging plays for adult audiences. From classical to contemporary,
the Hawaii Repertory Theatre has made it it's mission to provide
Hawaii audiences with professional quality productions of great works
of dramatic literature.
